The origin of Minangkabau

The Minangkabau are originally came from Sumatra, it is an island in southern Indonesia. But there are about 400, 000 Minangkabau live throughout Tropical west Malaysia . the name Minangkabau may be came from a myth that tells a fight between two water buffalo. The one from Majapahit who want to rule in the island and the other buffalo is from the people of Minangkabau who wants to fight for their land. at the end, the female water buffalo won the fight and from there, the word Minangkabau appeared and the meaning for it is  'Menang Kerbau'.

"Karano tanduak basi paruik tajalo
Mati tanduak basi paruik tajalo
Tuo jo Mudo sungguahpun heran
Datangnya indak karano diimbau
Dek karano Cadiak Niniak kito
Lantaran manyambuang di galanggang tanah
Dipadapek tuah kamujuran
Timbualah namo Minangkabau"
